Success is what we do.

We’ve been improving students’ grades, self-confidence & motivation for more than 40 years.  All of our tutoring is prescriptive, with programs designed for each student individually, then monitored and adapted constantly based on your child’s needs, learning styles, interests, and growth.

Writing (English Language Arts / ELA)

(2 – 3, 4 – 5, 6 – 8, 9 - 12) [30min or 1hr] [[2d or w]] R

We can work with students in both basic and large-scale structural ways, breaking writing into its mechanics, punctuation, capitalization, and word usage…as well as developing stronger sentences and paragraphs.  We teach kids how to be their own best editors.  We can help them find their written, “voice,” to present their ideas more clearly and well ordered.

Anime / Graphic Story Club (3 – 5, 6 – 8, 9 - 12) [1hr] [[w]] ELA, CW, R, S, A    5- or 10-weeks or ongoing

QA-Anime2W1500.jpg

We use kid’s love of art to boost their reading and writing skills as they become the authors of their own graphic stories (yes, “comic books;” you know kids love them and it’s just the right thing to get them to start writing!).  Weaving their own stories together with their own creative art (including instruction in the young-student-version of the classic Japanese animation style), our instructors use this opportunity to teach story structure, grammar, capitalization and punctuation, editing, definition of styles, and how to create more complex/engaging writing.  Being able to mix drawing with writing allows us to include younger students.

Young Writer’s Program (4 – 5, 6 – 8,9 - 12) [1hr] [[w]] ELA, CW, S, R     5- or 10-weeks or ongoing

RA-Writer2W1500.jpg

This program goes well beyond the mechanics of writing into the heart of its purpose.  Students are taught – and practice – elements of style, types of writing, and character development.  Descriptive vocabulary and more interesting sentences – as well as how to capture and keep a reader’s attention – are all useful aspects of this option.  We’ll cover non-fiction (including different types of written reports and how to present pro and con arguments), fiction, ad writing, poetry, and more.  You’ll even have the option of having us host a “Young Author’s Competition.”

Spelling Generalizations & Phonics for Older Kids

(2 – 3, 4 – 5, 6 – 8, 9 - 12) [30min or1hr] [[d, 2d, or w]] R

Phonics aren’t just for beginning readers.  A surprising number of students never truly master the phonics which could quickly boost their reading and spelling abilities.  We combine the practice of these with the high frequency, non-phonetic, sight words that will gain students the most progress.

Printing, Handwriting & Small Motor Development

(2 – 3, 4 – 5, 6 – 8) [30min or 1hr] [[2d or w]] R

Forget boring drills!  Tutorific has mastered the art of small motor development by adding engaging elements such as animator light boxes, style sheets, size-reduction box challenges, and mazes.  This selection can easily be joined with our “Writing” option.

At Tutorific, we innovate.
